B. Borooah College Granted Autonomous Status By UGC

B. Borooah College was granted autonomous status by the UGC on June 25, 2024.

It has been granted 10-year autonomous status by the UGC. 

The UGC also requested Gauhati University to formalise the autonomous status within 30 days.

Founded in 1943, the college symbolises educational resilience

Led by Gopinath Bordoloi, it offered sanctuary amidst various challenges 

It started evening education at Kamrup Academy, supported by Keshav Kanta's community contribution.

Led by Prof. Surendra Mohan Das and Hem Baruah, the college excelled after relocating to Ulubari in 1963.

Since 1948 under GU, it has been a learning hub, starting Chemistry postgrad in 1993.

The College excels academically with diverse courses and modern facilities, fostering student empowerment.

B. Borooah College now offers diverse courses from HS to BBA shaping Guwahati’s educational landscape.
